Earthfill Quantity Computation Worksheet

Computing Earthwork Quantities

As you create levees, berms, or other landscape features for your wetland, you will need to calculate how much fill is needed to build them. Accurate earthwork quantities are essential for project budgets, contractor use, and for final payment. If you do not have access to engineering resources like AutoCAD to do these calculations, below is a spreadsheet with formulas that you can download.

You can use this worksheet to compute yardage quantities. Survey the levee alignment at 100-foot intervals using a laser level and record the point locations with a GPS device (for stakeout purposes). Enter the survey data (measured rod readings) into the worksheet along with the top width, slope, and planned top elevation, and then compute the quantities.
