Engelmann Woods NA

Wildflowers in the woods.
Missouri Department of Conservation

Engelmann is a rich forest community that rewards visitors with a variety of natural treats, depending on the season. Visit during spring and the forest floor will feature a burgeoning assortment if early spring wildflowers such as flox, spring beauties, blue and yellow violets and the delicate, Jack-in-the-pulpit and yellow celandine poppy. Visit again in fall for striking colors above as the changing red oak, white oak, white ash, basswood, and sugar maple paint the forest canopy. An excellent hiking trail conveys trekkers through both the higher ridges and low-laying creek beds of the area.
