Forest floor at Dave Rock Conservation Area
Missouri Department of Conservation

A large complex of sandstone glade, savanna, and dry, mesic sandstone forest exists. The uniqueness of this sandstone glade is the large expanse of exposed sandstone outcrop and the numerous species of mosses and lichens. Due to the shallowness of the areas bedrock, a more mesic woodland/forest community exists.
